10 Face Masks to Make at Home

Giving yourself a fun, easy and beneficial beauty treatment at home is easier than you think, especially since you probably have all the ingredients you need! To restore your skin, ease blotchiness and eradicate dryness, a DIY face mask is the way to go.

Did you know lemon juice helps to lighten dark spots and scars? Egg whites tighten skin and shrink pores. Honey helps your skin retain moisture. Cinnamon reduces inflammation and redness while soaking up excess oil. Lemon helps exfoliate your skin and can minimize dark spots. And caffeine increases collagen production.

Using a combination of good-for-your skin ingredients already in your kitchen — including avocado, yogurt and oatmeal — you can effortlessly remove dead skin cells and tighten pores to reveal fresh and glowing skin. Here are some recipes to try.

 

Tightening & Brightening Mask

  •  1 egg white
  • 1/2 tablespoon raw honey
  • 1/2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Whisk all ingredients until foamy. Use a small brush to spread the mixture over your clean face, avoiding your eye area. After 30 minutes, rinse with warm water and gently pat dry.

 

Hydrating Avocado Mask

  • 1/2 ripe avocado
  • 1 teaspoon plain organic yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of virgin olive oil

Mash the avocado and then mix in the rest of the ingredients until it forms a paste. Apply to your face, and leave it on for 10-15 minutes.

 

Edible Mud Mask

  • 3 tablespoons Greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon buttermilk
  • 1/2 a mashed banana
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Mix all ingredients in a blender or food processor enough to where everything is combined but still thick so it doesn’t slide off your face. Apply it to your face, and let it sit for 30 minutes. This recipe makes enough for 3-5 masks.

 

Pore-Shrinking Egg White Mask

  • 1 egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon of orange juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder

Whisk all ingredients together and leave it on your face for 15 minutes.

 

Calming Honey Mask

  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 wedge of fresh lemon

Warm the honey in the microwave for a few seconds, then combine with the rest of the ingredients and gently massage onto your face. Leave on for 15-20 minutes.

 

Brown Sugar Scrub Mask

  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil

Mix and apply to your face in gentle circular motions. Leave it on for 5 minutes and rinse off.

 

Invigorating Coffee Mask

  • Coconut oil
  • Used coffee grounds

Blend room-temperature coconut oil with used coffee grounds. Let the mask sit on your face for 10 minutes.

 

Redness-Reducing Oatmeal Mask

  • 2 tablespoons of raw oats
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • 1/2 of a banana

Mix all together and let it sit on your face for 15 minutes.

 

Blemish-Fighting Milk Mask

  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons of milk

Mix together and let this stay on your face for 10-15 minutes.

 

Anti-Aging Chocolate Mask

  • 1/2 cup of cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons of oats
  • 4 tablespoons of cream
  • 1/4 cup of honey

Mix and apply a thin layer, leaving it on for 10 minutes.
