8 Tricks for Girls with Fine Hair

Ladies with ultra-fine hair understand all the hassles of limp waves and flat, lifeless, stick-to-your-head woes. The struggle is real. But with the right tips and tricks, it is possible to transform your flat strands into big, bouncy tresses full of volume. Here are eight tricks for girls with fine hair to get great style.

1. Wash your hair often.

Curlier, thicker hair tends to be drier do better with less frequent washes. However, fine hair can get oily fast, which weighs it down and makes it look limp and/or greasy. Dry shampoo can be your best friend if you can’t wash your hair every day. Also, you can use spray your hair with water and then blow dry your roots with a round brush for easy volume.

2. Go easy on conditioner.

Conditioner can smooth and improve the texture of your hair so strands are glossy and soft, but conditioners with oils and silicones can weigh your hair down. So use conditioner sparingly at your ends, and never on your roots.

3. Blow dry your hair.

Don’t sleep in or leave the house with wet hair, since thin, fine hair doesn’t air-dry into a nice, bouncy shape like some thicker, curlier hair. Instead, blow dry your hair upside down, flipping your head over to aim at the roots and really give hair that extra lift.

4. Use the right products.

A little, volumizing mousse can add extra boost and sheen. A lightweight root lift, a sea-salt spray for texture and a thickening spray are also great products to try.

5. Get a great cut.

Some hairdressers will say not to get bangs, as they can look limp or greasy on then-haired gals, but dry shampoo can help them from looking too thin and wispy. Overall, it’s more about finding a style that works. Long layers can add movement and volume. Shorter cuts, including a long pixie do, can work great without weighing hair down.

6. Don’t over-brush.

Too much brushing can actually make your hair seem more limp. When drying your hair, use your hands for the majority of the time before using a round brush. And don’t use a plastic comb, which can fill your hair with static.

7. Try waves.

Trying curls on fine hair can be tricky, but with the right hot tools and products, beachy waves can add volume and texture. Also, try velcro and foam rollers for a major volume boost.

8. Don’t fight it.

When your hair has gotten limp and dry shampoo isn’t cutting it, just put it in a ponytail. When it comes to putting hair back, fine-haired girls actually have it the best.
