Four Simple Ways to Update Your Hair Hue

We’re getting closer to summer, and it’s that time of year where a lot of women start thinking about making a change with their hair color. But not everyone needs or wants a major transformation —maybe you’re just looking for a small update or an easy way to refresh your color without a big commitment or drastic change.

Of course, there are a ton of shades and hues to consider, from buttery blonde and sexy shades of brown, to a fiery ombré and a slew of fantasy colors from pastel to practically metallic. But here are some hair color ideas that are low-maintenance while still looking high-impact.

Add Spice to Your Red

Rich auburn hair is absolutely show-stopping, and there are so many different things you can do with red hair. For a lighter look, try strawberry blond highlights. A few tawny ribbons of gold give you a flirty freshness that’s perfect for the warm summer months ahead. Or add touches of caramel and copper, which adds warmth and vibrancy without looking too intense.

Amp Up Your Blonde

Blonde hair can act as an instant illuminator for your skin (and even your eyes). Finding the right shade of blonde is all about good balance; fair skin looks best with cool, pale colors, while darker complexions are most flattered by warmer hues. If your hair is currently dirty blonde and needs some brightening, try multi-colored highlights. Chunky highlights in a range of hues-platinum, honey and gold — will perk up your look immeasurably. And if you want something different from solid platinum, try an all-over ashy shade, a rich champagne hue or sparking marshmallow white.

Enrich Your Brunette

So many opt for a lighter hair color for summer, but when you have dark brown hair, attaining a sun-kissed look can be challenging. However, you can lighten your hair to a warm honey, caramel or burnished bronze shade. Go for a perfect “bronde” mix of brown and blonde. Or try ombré by only lightening up the ends. A few well-placed highlights on the ends and around your face in a shade one to two lighter than your base can attract light to give your hair instant dimension.

Try the Rainbow

There are so many cool ways to try the whole crayon box of color in your hair. If you want a subtle look, try pink highlights on the underside of your hair. Rose gold is also a fun yet sophisticated way to experiment with trendy touches of pink. Vibrant, jewel-toned mermaid hair is still on trend, as is ultraviolet, a bright purple and the Pantone Color of the Year for 2018.
