New hair… who dis? Spring is almost here, and it’s a time to renew and refresh everything, including your look. Whether you’re looking at fashion runways and beauty magazines, or getting inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest, here are some of the hair and makeup trends we’ve spotted for 2018.
Hair Trends
- Accessories — Barrettes and headbands are all officially back in style! To make these items look modern, stick with simplified, understated looks. Opt for smaller, solid-colored scrunchies. For barrettes, look for simple pearl-embellished versions. Part your hair deep on one side and pull back with a barrette, or part your hair in the middle with a barrette on each side. If you want to go wild, preppy or even athletic, a headband is your best option. Try one in in gold, with a bow or in a bold print.
- Bobs with Bangs — Some people cringe at the mention of bangs, but you’ll soon see this look everywhere. This look is surprisingly wearable, with very light, casual and un-done bangs instead of a blunt block of fringe.
- Curls — Texture and curls are just getting bigger and better for the spring. Avoid brushing textured hair to preserve the natural curl pattern, and try different size curling iron barrels to add some bounce.
- Dirty Blonde — Forget platinum; warm, golden blonde is the new A-list hair color trend du jour. Golden shades are easier than the whiter-than-white look, and it’s OK to keep your roots dark.
- School Girl Braids — It looks like braids are here to stay in 2018. They can look a bit loose, messy and undone, as if you’re running late to class, or pristine, shiny and symmetrical for a prep-school look. Also, use super simple hair ties that are hardly visible.
- Silver Hair — Last year was all about matte gray hair and pastel shades of unicorn hair, but 2018 is going a little luxe with super shiny, metallic, silver hair.
- Undone Wet Look — Wet look hair is not new, but the twist for the spring is that instead of a poker straight version, hair is looser and more tousled with some added texture to create a softer look.
Makeup Trends
- Black Eyeliner —Trace it thick around both lash lines.
- Cut creasing — This eyeshadow trend defines the eyes and makes them look bigger.
- Glittery Eyes — Adhere glittering rhinestones, gems and sequins to your eyelids and around your eyes for a statement-making look.
- Gold Highlighter — Look for yellow-gold metallic pigments that can be worn all over your face, although paler and cooler skin tones may want to stick to just one element: eyeshadow, lipstick or highlighter.
- Pink Ombré — Bright, colorful makeup looks great with fashion’s floral trend.
- Rounded Cat-Eye — Instead of an ultra-sharp wing, try a rounded-off the edge instead.
- Soft Lipstick — Ditch your liquid lipstick for a creamy, hydrating formula.
